I've always loved adventure stories with surreal worlds and creatures. Make believe worlds that are constructed so well you believe them. I'm also a fan of detailed plots and non linear story telling. A Kings Folly will have a beginning point however the story will progress both forward and backwards. As the story progresses, information from both the past and the future will be needed in order to fully appreciate the stories complexity.
The characters in Kings Folly are all very developed. There is nothing worse than a flat, two dimensional, character. I really love characters whose personality you can't quite peg down. The characters that when they are confronted with a situation the reader cannot predict what they will decide upon. But I also enjoy irony, therefore the cast of Kings Folly will also follow very stereotypical character formats. The main character, Elliot, for instance is drawn out to be the classic main character; he was born to become one of my most powerful beings to have ever existed, raised as a prince and thrown out of his kingdom, brave and courageous, the typical hero. However unlike a classic hero who can do no wrong, Elliot seems to do all of the wrong things. He struggles constantly between doing what the world believes is right and what he believes is right. Though he might've been born with the potential to be all powerful, he is unmotivated and disheartened. Instead of being the cliche hero who really wants to fight and save the world, Elliot is being forced to. Elliot is a forced hero.
Much like any fun and exciting fantasy novel, Kings folly is full of magic and mythical creatures. Powers and abilities in the world of Kings Folly are a bit unique. Ones power stems from the color of their soul. There are three main branches of power, Red the power of mind, Blue the power of spirit, and Yellow the power of body. Those with red soul generally have enhanced intelligence, can predict the future, can teleport using calculations, have psychic and telepathic abilities such as mind reading or moving objects with only thought. Red souls can also stop time (or at least the perception of time), create hallucinations, warp someones senses...etc. Anything to do with the mind, that is the power of a red soul. Blue souls are magic. They can create and destroy. Blue souls strength comes from the heart and spirit. The more creative the person, the more powerful they become with a blue soul. Blue soul bearers can control the elements, alter their appearance, conjure weapons, create barriers, they can even create alternate dimensions. The only thing that constricts the bearer of a blue soul is the amount of material they have at their disposal. The conservation of energy still applies. Nothing can be created from nothing. Yellow souls are fierce and brave with the ability to enhance their physical attributes and properties. They can become heavier, lighter, shorter, taller. Yellow souls can move faster, jump higher, hit harder. They can grow to immense sizes or shrink down to nothing more than a spec of dust. Bearers of yellow souls are often warriors who can harder their skin and deflect even the mightiest of blows. Soul color is reflected in a beings eyes, as eyes are the window to the soul. Pure colored souls are rare, so people with pure red, blue, or yellow eyes are very rare and very powerful. Most people with power have a variant of two or more colors. The most common soul color is green, purple or orange. Weaker souls have two colored eyes and most of the living population have brown eyes with no special powers or abilities other than those inherited through family lineage.
But amongst all of the powers there are only two individuals born every 500 years or so that contain all powers. One white soul, and one black soul. The two Kings. The Kings are tasked with deciding morality of humans and living creatures. They are born with two options, both opposing views. Depending on how the King chooses to live or die will decide on which option will be chosen. The options presented to each King are roughly based on the seven deadly sins. For example a King could be born with lust. His or her options would be something along the lines of passion or apathy. Both have pros and cons. Passion could drive people to success, it could motivate and encourage. Mighty leaders could be born and people would rejoice. But it can also lead to jealously and rage along with other uncontrolled and power emotions. Apathy can create an unbiased understanding where equality and rule based justice rules. Order and control would be the main theme and the world would enjoy a utopian like state. But what is lost is the ability to feel. No one would be excited over their success or fall madly in love. A King can choose a path in one of two ways. The first way is they can decide on their own based on how they chose to live their life. They will die like anyone else and with their death comes the change in peoples hearts. However should one King choose a path that is undesirable to the other, one King may choose to slay the other as then the remaining King can make the decision. Kings are immortal and impervious to injuries unless inflicted by the opposing King. The only other thing that can kill a King is old age. No one knows why Kings die.
Kings Folly is a story about the dawn of two new Kings and their struggle against each other in order to shape the world to however they see fit. That though is only the main story, there will be six underlying stories that all play an essential part.
Thank you for reading, I hope you will enjoy this series as I have spent many years creating it!
